Licenses

Velneo FLOSS

A license is a formal authorization of a contractual nature that a software author gives an interested party to engage in "legal acts of exploitation". There can be as many licenses as specific agreements made between the author and the licensee. From the FLOSS (Free/Libre/Open-Source Software) standpoint, there are different variations on the concept or licensing groups.

The most-used FLOSS (Free/Libre/Open-Source Software) license is the GNU General Public License (GPL), created by de Richard Stallman's FSF (Free Software Foundation). With this license, the author maintains the copyright, and permits redistribution and modification under terms designed to ensure that all of the modified versions of the software remain under the most restrictive terms of the very GNU General Public License (GPL). One of the premises of the license is to respect the four freedoms .

Besides, the GNU General Public Licence (GPL), there are others such as Open Software License (OSL) v. 2.1, v. 3.0 from OSI, MPL style licenses , derivatives and BSD style Licenses.

At Velneo, to license our FLOSS, we've chosen the EUPL (European Union Public License) license which is a free and copyleft software license created by the European Union and which is compatible with the two most currently-used licenses:

We made this decision because EUPL (European Union Public License) is a license which is compatible with GPL and OSL, which is regulated by a public administration which guarantees the continuity and development of said license, as well as its legal framework.

In addition we also have VCL (Velneo Commercial License).
The purpose of this License is to establish the freedom of the VELNEO user/licensee to choose if he/she wishes to share and change the software regulated under this License delivered to him/her as open source code.
This License is applied to any software with a notice indicating it is licensed under this text.
